Recently we got a chance to sit down and chat with the manager of Sweet
Cheeks Winery, Kacy Minnis, about the upcoming Barrel Tour.
Kacy seemed excited about the event, commenting on how much she likes to be involved in something that brings together all of the different wineries in the area: “I think it shows to our customers that we work together, and that the Willamette Valley is truly a wine destination.”
Kacy talked a little about what the Barrel Tour participants can expect from
Sweet Cheeks this year. She revealed that they will be serving flat breads with
the white wines: vegetarian pesto with the Pinot Gris and spicy chicken with the sweet Riesling. This year’s barrel sample will feature their 2012 Tempranillo, and will be served with chocolate bark. Yum!
Participants can also expect an opportunity to take a walk through the winery and talk to the wine maker, which is a pretty unique experience since Sweet Cheeks doesn’t normally do winery tours.
Our conversation ended with Kacy explaining the story behind the winery’s
name. Story goes that the original owner of the winery was standing above the two hills he just purchased, watching the land being plowed with his father-in-law. The father-in-law asks him, “So what do you plan on naming the winery?” He responds, “Looks like a couple of sweet cheeks to me!” And the name stuck.
